ArtsLIVE! will host their annual Young Artist Competition in January 2020. Student applicants will compete in the categories of vocal, piano, and instruments before a panel of judges at initial auditions. The finalists will perform in the finals competition on January 18 at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 1019 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg at 7:30 pm.  In case of inclement weather the event will be rescheduled to January 25th. A Celebration: The Intersection of Black History Month and Women’s History Month

Award winning blues musician, Gaye Adegbalola, will perform a mini-concert of songs by and for black women.  The lyrics chronicle the history of working class black women in the 1920s and 30s.  Gaye will draw from songs by Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, Sippie Wallace, Ida Cox, or others to document the era.  She will then perform a couple of her original songs to share the continuation of the blues from utilizing contemporary content. We are very excited to partner with Stafford Opera Troupe to bring opera back to our schools this March! We will be visiting three schools in Fredericksburg, Stafford and Spotsylvania. The children are going to love the select performances from The Pirates of Penzance, including the hilarious “Modern Major-General’s Song”. They will also receive learning packets filled with fun activities and interesting facts.
