Education and Outreach

Research shows that involving children in music, drama, and dance improves their overall performance in school and community.

K-12 Outreach

In partnership with the Virginia Opera, we bring operettas to elementary school children in schools throughout the region.  Last year, Virginia Opera entertained, educated, and inspired more than 6,900 students in 16 schools in the greater Fredericksburg region.

The Young Artist Competition (YAC) targets middle and high school students.  This juried competition for aspiring students of classical instruments, piano and voice provides them an opportunity to display their talents and be rewarded with scholarships. YAC is held annually, and, in addition to earning scholarship money, these students are also invited to appear in future events sponsored by ArtsLIVE!

ArtsLIVE! has partnered with Stafford Opera Troupe to support young vocalists in a summer opera workshop and performance. We have also brought bullying workshops, puppet shows, and playwriting workshops to students across the region.

Community Outreach

Our Arts in Motion program is also reaching another segment of our community bringing music and entertainment to seniors in assisted living facilities and retirement communities, as well as underserved residents in hospitals and nursing homes.  Contact us if you are interested in donating your time to performing for a very appreciative audience.

Our partnerships with Rappahannock POPS, The Rude Mechanicals, The Voices, and Stafford Opera Troupe extend our community outreach.
